The Check In: You should not have to wait months to talk to someone
Mind's campaign for same-day open access to mental health support, and Mind Cymru's finding in July 2026 that waits for specialist therapy in Wales are at their highest since the pandemic (source)
Mind is campaigning for people to be able to access mental health support on the day they need it. In July, Mind Cymru reported that the number of people waiting for specialist psychological therapy in Wales had reached its highest level since the pandemic. The picture across Britain is similar. People are told to reach out, then told to wait.
Waiting lists for therapy are the longest since the pandemic. The Check In offers a single session with a registered therapist, without a long wait or an open ended commitment.
The Check In exists for that gap.
What The Check In is
The Check In is a single session with me, a BACP registered therapist. There is no long assessment process and no commitment to twelve weeks. You bring what is on your mind, and we work on it.
Think of it like a physio assessment after having a muscle ache. You do not always need a full rehabilitation programme. Sometimes you need an expert to look at it properly, tell you what is going on and show you what to do next.
Who it suits
The Check In suits people who struggle to make decisions, need skilful conversations, lack a support network or are not sure therapy is for them. It also works as a first step. If ongoing work would help, in the form of therapy or a higher tiered Check In service, we can talk about that at the end of the session.
Frequently asked questions
Is one session enough to make a difference? Research on single session therapy shows many people benefit from one focused conversation, especially when they arrive with a clear question.
Can I book more than one? Yes. You can book single Check In session, or move to Check In Plus or Check In Monthly.
